Komwatch CCTV Privacy Notice
This privacy notice explains how Komwatch uses data when captured on CCTV. Komwatch is funded by residents of Kommetjie and is run on a volunteer basis to assist with the security of all people, both residents and visitors to the village.
Komwatch has CCTV in operation at various locations, in various streets of the suburb of Kommetjie. The CCTV will capture images in real time wherever the cameras are pointed. These cameras may capture footage of people and activity in the streets of Kommetjie. Where the field of vision of the cameras includes private property, the private property section of the camera view is blanked out by the operators and cannot be viewed by monitoring staff nor is it recorded. Cameras have been situated in strategic locations as a crime preventative measure. There are signs in place to inform you where cameras are in use, each camera has a link to this privacy policy.
The CCTV camera monitoring of Kommetjie streets is done on a “black screen” basis which means that the camera monitoring team is alerted by the monitoring screen being activated due to human movement.
The monitoring team which consists of members of Senixa as well as Komwatch volunteers monitoring from both the Senixa control room and the Komwatch control room can determine the nature of the activity and where required take relevant actions to alert the required response teams from Komwatch, private security companies and SAPS.
The CCTV cameras are monitored by Komwatch volunteers and Senixa during the day and night on a non-black screen basis as and when there is a need to identify an incident that has or is occurring based on information received from various sources.
The cameras are funded by concerned residents under the management of Komwatch volunteers with the company Senixa operating and managing the cameras and recording equipment as well as alerting Komwatch, various private security entities as well as the SAPS of any security and other incidents where actions may be required to assist or prevent the incidents from occurring.
